NDOLA City Council Town Clerk, Mr. George Mulenga has said remaining accountable to the public is key to service delivery.
Mr. Mulenga said Ndola City Council is a public institution which is answerable to the residents of Ndola and other stakeholders and therefore should embrace measures that make it more accountable.
The Town Clerk said this today during a meeting in his office with a team from the Auditor General's Office.
A team from the Auditor General's Office has commenced routine audit of Ndola City Council financial documents and operations.
The team compromised Acting Principal Auditor Leya Shapola and Senior Auditor Gregory Tembo.
The Town Clerk said the Council embraces audits because it is a public institution.
He said audit should not be feared by those in public office.
And Ms Shapola said the purpose of the audit was to issue an opinion on various areas understood to be risks.
She said the auditors require access to all documentation in order for them to issue an informed opinion.
She said auditors should not be perceived as enemies but as counterparts in development.
The audit runs from today to 13th February after which the Council would be given 15 days to respond to queries, if any.
Ndola City Council Directors were in attendance.
